Why is my iPhone stuck in headphone mode?
Software flaw? Hard reset
Your screen shows headphone mode, but it won’t go away even without headphones plugged in. There are several possible reasons for this. It may be that your device's software just needs a reset to fix this bug.
For a hard reset:
A force reset turns your device on and off. It keeps your data and fixes any glitches or bugs.
iPhone 5/5s and 6/6s: Press and hold the power and home buttons at the same time for 10 seconds. Wait for the Apple logo to appear.
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: Hold down both the power and volume buttons. Holding down for ten seconds will cause the Apple logo to show up.
iPhone 8/8 Plus/X/XR/XS Max: Press the up or down volume button along with the power/lock button. Wait for the Apple logo to display after holding down for ten seconds.
Check your headphone jack for any dirt/debris.
Maybe it's time to examine your headphone jack. Look inside your charging port and headphone jack with a flashlight for any dirt and residue. If you find debris, locate an appropriate small brush, possibly a toothbrush or a paintbrush. Use it to clean out the dirt. Be careful while doing this and do not use tweezers. The delicate pins and components inside may get damaged if you use tweezers for this purpose. If you really can't get the debris out.
You can also try to use a can of compressed air. Hold the home button. Then, blow this into your iPhone's headphone jack and charging dock. This removes all remaining dirt lurking inside.
If you need help with this, we offer a dock cleaning service in-store. Our skilled technicians will remove dirt from your device. Please ask in store for more details.
Physical damage, such as a broken charging dock or headphone jack, or potential liquid damage
It's not uncommon for your iPhone to become stuck in headphone mode. Your iPhone may experience numerous problems if it gets wet. Why? The charging port connects to the headphone jack. These are the only access points for water to enter the device.
