Prayagraj: Following the stampede incident at the Maha Kumbh Mela, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued key directives regarding the crowd and traffic management. The stampede occurred during the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya, with a large number of pilgrims gathering, resulting in 30 deaths and 60 injuries. In response, measures have been taken to control the crowd and vehicle congestion. Yogi has ordered the cancellation of VIP passes and the removal of parking zones. The area where the Kumbh Mela is held has been completely declared a no-vehicle zone. Vehicle entry into the Maha Kumbh area has been prohibited, and one-way routes are being implemented. A one-way traffic system is in place to allow for smooth movement of the devotees.
Vehicles coming from districts near Prayagraj will be limited to the borders of their respective districts. Vehicles will be stopped at district borders. These measures are being taken to reduce congestion. Strict regulations will be in place until February 4. The entry of four-wheel vehicles into Prayagraj has been halted. Chief Minister Adityanath has instructed officials to ensure smooth traffic flow in the Kumbh Mela area and to avoid unnecessary halts. He emphasized that no large crowds should form at any location and that there should be no congestion on the roads. Street vendors should be relocated to vacant areas to prevent traffic disruptions. He also mentioned that devotees visiting the Kumbh Mela should not be unnecessarily stopped.
The police have been advised to increase patrols in the mela areas. Adityanath instructed officials to take steps to avoid traffic jams on routes such as Ayodhya-Prayagraj, Kanpur-Prayagraj, Fatehpur-Prayagraj, Lucknow-Pratapgarh-Prayagraj, and Varanasi-Prayagraj.
